Tending Your Soil

"Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.” Matthew 13:18-23 Nothing about a seed is forceful. They are small, delicate things carried by the Wind of His breath. God is giving you SEEDS of PROMISES for your calling and your family. God never once says, however, that it's also Him that drives the seed deeply inside and ensures it's growth. The SOIL of our hearts, Jesus tells us, is our part in this co-creative growing of fruits in our lives. Misunderstanding the promises gobbles up the promises before they take root. Hard-heartedness or bitterness doesn't show God enough soft soil to let those seeds ever sprout or take root. Seeds of promise also cannot grow when they are choked out by bigger fears. When your fears are soaking up all of the "good land" in your heart, the promises are cramped and starved. Only GOOD SOIL grows these seeds. Good soil is not perfect hearts but the hearts that have been broken up on the Threshing floor. Soil that God has shaped and touched and molded and turned up every part of. Good soil is also full of nutrients- well noursihed by His words and fully in His light. Your promises were never a question. Time to tend your soil as you receive them and watch them GROW. "I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them. I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh." Ezekiel 11:19
