Roots

Listening to a song this morning, I got an image of someone walking by the river amidst big, gnarled, roots. The kind that lay half-buried under the dirt. Occasionally stretches of the underlying roots will emerge. Recently my son saw one of these uncovered portions and, thinking it was a stick, tried to pick it up to toss it into the river. It wouldn't budge. I have waited while this message unfurled and gained clarity. For some, now is a time in which good things from the past are going to spring back into life! These roots may have seemed dormant or even been things you thought to pick up and toss away because they were just dead sticks, but they have stayed firmly fixed. Roots are the first beginning of growth and life. They are mostly covered by earth, so their growth is HARD TO SEE. There are some who are looking at their spiritual soil and wondering if anything is growing or even can grow there. Be mindful of what Goe may have below the surface! This spiritual growth is occuring largely out of sight. Roots also can survive when the entirety of the tree is chopped down and are able to SPROUT AGAIN. Some good things from our past we think have been chopped down and are past hoping. The God of impossibilities is encouraging us to not consider any past thing beyond His ability to use! He Himself, when choosing the prophecies to foretell His coming, chose seemingly dead ROOTS SPROUTING something revolutionary. A spiritual rain is coming to water these roots, and God is inviting us to withhold our assumptions and see what grows! "For there is hope for a tree, When it is cut down, that it will sprout again, And its shoots will not fail. Though its roots grow old in the ground And its stump dies in the dry soil, At the scent of water it will flourish And put forth sprigs like a plant." Job 14:7-9 "Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a branch from his roots will bear fruit." Isaiah 11:1 "For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, And like a root out of parched ground; He has no stately form or majesty That we should look upon Him, Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him." Isaiah 53:2
